About Raina

Raina Hatcher is a maker, learner, reader, writer, and researcher currently completing a B.A. in Art History and a B.S. in Astronomy at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Informed by their studies in astrophysics, Raina explores the relationships between and surrounding Art and Science through their creations—questioning how we think about Art, how we think about Science, and how we interact with them in juxtaposition.

Raina, passionate about climate awareness, uses their experience as a sustainability organizer, and ongoing research in the field of ecocritical art history, to create artworks and writing that explore the human relationship with nature, and how it must change.

Raina’s creations explore time, scientific theory, the mind, and our existential experience as human beings. Raina’s growing oeuvre features numerous large-scale abstract oil paintings, as well as more interdisciplinary, ephemeral, and mixed media works.

Do you have questions about my work? Do you create art yourself and want to collaborate? Would you just like to have a good chat? Did a ladybug whisper my name to you? Whatever the reason, I would love to hear from you!

Art nourishes. It is like food, but it is not food. Usually I cannot eat it. If you enjoy my creations, and would like to support my making more of them, you can do so via much appreciated donations to the art!

Selling artwork is strange. Artwork is powerful, and it is not easily possessed. Determining what rights an artist still holds over an artwork once it is sold is ethically difficult, and although specific terms can be written, the only way to fully guarantee my artistic agency and autonomy is to avoid selling original works of art. Currently, I am still working to make prints of my artwork available, so donations are the best (and only) way to help fund my art. Thank you so much for your support!

thank you so much! art is expensive, and the more donations I receive the more art I am able to make!
